My Approach

Make it focused.

  • Education’s “3 Rs” live on as higher ed Web prime objectives: Recruitment, Retention, and Reputation building.
  • Know my audiences – learn beyond my assumptions of who they are and what they want.
  • Listen. Learn. Plan. Manage.

Make it real.

  • The modern read/write Web is a conversation between real people and institutions, not static reference pages.
  • I must engage my audiences by finding creative ways to give them what they need AND what I want them to have.
  • The institution’s brand is a promise; the Web must help make that promise and must help the College deliver on it as well.
  • People connect with people: tell real stories that illustrate the College’s institutional brand promise.

Make it about the user.

  • Employ user-centered design.
  • Architect pages simply, cleanly, and with natural language.
  • Garner feedback, plan for adjustment, and understand the Web flexes to engage its users.

Make it matter.

  • Sites must have concrete purpose, measurable goals, and real value.
  • Use technology and social media strategically, not simply because they exist and I can.
  • The Web evolves constantly, and so must my understanding of standards, best practices, and new technologies.
